"Can't we all just live together peacefully?"
"I let no man drag me down so low as to make me hate him." (Booker T. Washington) The evidence of violence and hate and its influence within our culture becomes more evident every day, for example: A racial shooting spree in Chicago, not to mention a black man that was dragged to death behind a pick-up truck driven by a young white supremacist are sad, yet current illustrations of this ongoing problem.
The Bible teaches us that there is a problem, but it does not point to any social, political, or economic cause for this. Instead, it tells us that all of the inequality, abuse, and hate can be traced back to a spiritual disease that infected the human race generations ago. This disease causes us to think and behave selfishly, it is transmitted from mother to daughter and father to son. The Bible calls it Sin.
Not only does sin cause us to mistreat one another, but it also causes us to die. If we did not have this disease, we would not only get along with each other, but we would also live forever, BUT the GOOD NEWS is this: You do not need to live with sin until it kills you. There is a way out! God sent Jesus into the world to take your disease away and carry it himself. As a sponge soaks up filthy water, Jesus can soak up your sin. "Surely He has borne our infirmities and carried our diseases; yet we accounted Him stricken, struck down by God, and afflicted. But He was wounded for our transgressions, crushed for our iniquities; upon Him was the punishment that made us whole and by His bruises we are healed. We like sheep have gone astray; We have all turned to our own way, and the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all" (Isaiah 53:4-6, NRSV).
Even the best cure will be worthless if the patient refuses to take it. The cure for sin is available to you. The Bible says: "God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son so that whoever believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life" (John 3:16).
Every man has been promised to be cured of his sins and save his soul, you must believe in Jesus. You must believe in him as a child believes in the firefighter who carries them out of a burning house. You must trust him unconditionally and place your life in His hands. The Bible also says: "The grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all. It teaches us to say "No" to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and Godly lives in this present age". (Titus 2:11-12, NIV)
Jesus cannot take your sin away if you refuse to let it go. If you believe in Him and that He died for your sins, He will start cleaning your life up and removing your sinful habits one by one. You will be taught to love people unconditionally and give honor to the God who saved you by what the Bible teaches. BUT, the final "bottom-line" is simple, and the decision is TOTALLY YOURS but you must realize that you can choose your own master! You can choose sin with death or else, obedience with acquittal. (Romans 6:16, TLB).
